Overview
Blocklist.de was a German-based community blacklist that aggregated automated attack reports submitted by server operators using fail2ban and similar intrusion detection tools. Rather than focusing exclusively on email spam, it tracked IPs involved in SSH brute-force attacks, web application attacks, FTP abuse, and other forms of server exploitation β alongside spam.
The project operated as a free service for many years and built a substantial community of contributing server operators across Europe. The service has since been discontinued and is no longer updated.
How It Works
Server operators running fail2ban or similar tools configured their systems to automatically report blocked IPs to Blocklist.de. These crowdsourced reports were aggregated, deduplicated, and published as DNSBL feeds. IPs were categorized by attack type (SSH, SMTP, web, etc.) and scored by report frequency. The system was notable for its reliance on real-world defensive data rather than honeypots alone.
How to Get Delisted
As Blocklist.de is defunct, no removal process remains available. Historical listings carry no deliverability impact. If you are seeing blocks attributed to Blocklist.de feeds in firewall rules or spam filters, those rules may reference stale data β consider updating to an actively maintained feed.
