DAN TOR

DAN TOR, operated by Daniel Austin (dan.me.uk), was a DNSBL listing IP addresses of known Tor exit nodes. Its purpose was not to flag spam specifically, but to allow mail operators to identify and optionally block email arriving through the Tor anonymization network — which, while used legitimately for privacy, is also frequently abused for anonymous spam and fraud.

The list was widely used as a supplementary signal rather than a standalone blocking criterion. It has since been discontinued.

DAN TOR maintained a real-time list of Tor exit node IP addresses by monitoring the Tor consensus — the distributed directory of active Tor nodes published by Tor directory authorities. When an IP appeared in the consensus as an exit node, it was automatically added to the DNSBL. Entries expired when nodes went offline.

Since DAN TOR is defunct, no removal is possible or needed. If you operated a Tor exit node and are concerned about reputation, note that Tor exit node IPs are publicly listed in the Tor consensus by design. For current Tor exit node detection, alternative services such as the Spamhaus DROP list or dedicated Tor exit node lists are still maintained.
